Working on spiritual fitness in the Islamic month of fasting "Ramadan", the Ahmadiyya youth are hard at work raising funds for ACFB.
On June 18, Muslims across the globe have started observing the month of fasting,Ramadan. The intention of Ramadan is spiritual growth. It requires a person to pay more attention to self-improvement and display exalted morals. It is a time to intensify focus on remembrance and praising of God while increasing charity.
With regards to the different forms of charity prescribed, the Prophet of Islam (peace and blessings of God be upon him) was once asked, “If a person should have nothing?” He answered, ”He should work with his hands to his own benefit and also give alms. The companion asked again, “If he is not able to work?” The Prophet replied, “He should help a needy one.” He was asked again, “If he lacks that also?” The Prophet answered, “He should restrain himself from doing evil. That too is charity.” The Prophet Muhammad was keen on showing appreciation to his fellow beings and once said, “One who is not grateful to mankind is not grateful to God”.
Each year, 1 in 7 Americans turn to Feeding America network food banks for help. Each week, the Feeding America network serves 5.4 million individuals. Atlanta Community food bank (ACFB) has been a member of the Feeding America network since 1979.
For the Atlanta Community Food Bank service area, the report shows that 80,600 people are served each week by programs supported through ACFB, and that those clients turn to ACFB partner programs and pantries for help more than 6.1 million times over the course of the year. This means clients are visiting ACFB network programs an average of 8 times a year.
So in the spirit of doing good and serving mankind, young girls (ages 7-15) from theAhmadiyya Muslim Community (GA Chapter) have organized a food and fund drive with the Atlanta Community food bank (ACFB) from June 18 to July 18.
Apart from collecting canned food items at their mosque Baitul Ata (Norcross), the girls are also targeting to raise $500 via its fundraising page.
Ever since the food drive started, the Ahmadiyya youth has raised hundreds of dollars by selling balloon creations, hand made book marks, bracelets, bake sales and even cuddle with a kitten event.
Everybody is encouraged to show support by making a donation since for every dollar raised ACFB is able to provide four meals for those in need.
