Australia: Ahmadi Muslims spread peace during Christmas time

"ISIS are like the equivalent of the mafia and no one is more horrified than us. The same prayer we use to pray for peace is being used as people are slaughtered."

Association uses Christmas time to steer away from radicalization

A MARSDEN Park Islamic association will use one of the Christian calendar’s most significant days to reject radicalisation among its youth.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Association will host its annual Jalsa Salana convention at the Baitul Huda mosque from Christmas Day to December 27.

Imam Inamul Haq Kauser said the Christmas period was chosen to host the convention because local, interstate and overseas members were able to have time off from work to attend.

“We understand that the convention is held during the holiday season; hence people may choose to attend any session during the three days,” Imam Kauser said.

The convention will involve talks on challenges youths faced and the responsibilities of parents.

Imam Kauser said the mosque not only taught peace but loyalty to the country and the community.

The youth group is regularly involved in events such as Clean Up Australia Day, Red Cross blood donation drives and large Australia Day celebrations at the Hollinsworth Rd mosque.

He said it was the key to stamping out radicalisation among Islamic youth.

“We keep them busy so they don’t have time to think about that stuff,” he joked.

“We not only teach our youth about peace but have them get involved in the community to spread peace.

“We believe the way to treat your enemies is to be so kind and peaceful to them that they will become your friend,” he said.

A month after the deadly Paris terrorist attacks, Imam Kauser condemned the terrorist organisation Islamic State.

“What ISIS are doing is not Islam, this is not done in the name of our Prophet,” Imam Kauser said.

“ISIS are like the equivalent of the mafia and no one is more horrified than us. The same prayer we use to pray for peace is being used as people are slaughtered.

“Religion is so easy to manipulate. It’s always been manipulated by people and always will be.”

Persecuted in Pakistan and Indonesia, Imam Kauser said the Ahmadi Muslims were welcomed with open arms by western society.

“We would never want to hurt the West after they helped us when we needed it,” he said.
