When Christians kill, the faith is not blamed

Wednesday saw two assailants identified as Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik open fire in San Bernardino, killing 14 and injuring 21.

As an Imam of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, my heartfelt condolences go out to the victims of this tragedy and their families. Such an attack on innocent lives is an attack on humanity and should be condemned as such.

Before any evidence suggesting that the suspect was radicalized by some extremist form of Islam, many news outlets and individuals implicated the faith of 1.6 billion Muslims.

The hypocrisy of this is obvious when compared to the reaction to the shooting at the Planned Parenthood Clinic in Colorado Springs by Robert Dear.

Though he described himself as a Christian, neither was Christianity implicated, nor were Christians called upon to condemn the act.

It is now more important than ever that we unite to stand against this bigotry and actively ensure the safety of all Americans.
