HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Since terrorist attacks in Paris and San Bernardino, hate crimes against Muslims have been on the rise, according to the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).

"Education will completely eliminate any hate,” Salam Bhatti, of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, said.

Education is necessary to decrease hate crimes against Muslims.
...

Bhatti doesn't shy away from frank conversations on his religion.

"I do open myself to it because I do a thing called 'Ask a Muslim Anything' on Periscope. And so we'll have people come in and ask questions about Islam. And you'll also have people coming in to insult you or troll. But what's interesting is that the commenters who are non-Muslims will stand up for me and say, 'Hey, stop doing that or stop talking like that,'" Bhatti said.

No hate crimes against Muslims have been reported in central Pennsylvania. Bhatti and Christopher Khalid Janney say they haven't had any problems. In fact, it's the opposite.

"My team that I work with is very good. My managers have been awesome. Of course I get questions every now and again, but for the most part everybody is, they're respectful," said Janney.

But Janney recognizes there are people with anti-Muslim feelings. "We're not asking you not to feel whatever it is that you feel.

What we're saying is give us a chance to show you the other side," Janney said.
