The head of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at, Nigeria, Dr Mashuud Fashola has warned all those who plundered the nation’s resources to return same or face the wrath of God. Dr Fashola was fielding questions from newsmen during a press conference heralding the centenary celebration of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at in Nigeria, held at Ojokoro, Lagos, headquarters of the Islamic group.
Dr Fashola who saluted the courage of President Buhari in fighting corruption, warned self centered Nigerians who plundered the nation’s resources to return what they had taken or face the wrath of God. “It is an indication of widespread corruption that has hardly spared anyone. They have to return all they have taken or face the wrath of God. We will support the government on the anti-graft war in our prayers. Our own form of support is through prayers and we will continue to admonish them so that the war against corruption will succeed.
He also urged the government to embark on mass production of food for its citizenry, adding that no nation develops without developing its agriculture system to ensure food sufficiency. “We are not self reliant in food. We have neglected agriculture for so long and no nation develops without first developing its agriculture and food production,” he stated.
Reacting also to the incessant traffic snarl in Lagos metropolis, Dr Fashola advised the state government to develop the railway and waterways transportation system to reduce the traffic gridlock on Lagos roads. He expressed appreciation to God for the growth of the Islamic organisation in Nigeria since 1916 with the efforts of the first 21 members.
Dr Mash’ud Fashola recalled with nostalgia: “from initial establishment of the Jama’at in Lagos Island in 1916, we spread in the early 20’s to the North, middle-belt, West and East, having 49 circuits (regional zones) across all parts of Nigeria”.
Some of the activities lined up for the celebration include the National Peace symposium, Religious founders Day, Free Medical camps, Tree Planting across the country, establishment of more hospitals, farm settlements, educational institutions, Ahmadi Youths All Africa Games (AYAAG), inauguration of mosques in Ibadan, Calabar, Kano as well as a grand finale centenary conference.
According to him, The AYAAG will feature games such as football, table tennis, track events, basketball among others. The ten-day AYAAG sports competition will be held at Otunba Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, Nigeria between 17- 26 March, 2016.
