Members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA) were out in force doing their bit to rid the town centres of rubbish and debris left over the Christmas period.

The big street clean was just one of several initiatives members have been involved with during Winter.

The group also organised blood donation sessions, collected money for British Red Cross, visited Children's hospitals and Nursing homes giving them chocolates and gifts and donated food to the homeless & vulnerable on Christmas Day. Earlier in the month they dispatched more than 20 volunteers to assist with the Cumbria Relief Effort.

"Our members have enjoyed living in Yorkshire for decades and so any opportunity to help our local Community is a much welcomed one," said Nadeem Ahmad, Regional Youth Leader for Yorkshire.

"Cleaning the streets of Britain also presents us with an opportunity to become better Muslims as Cleanliness is an integral part of our faith.

"Giving up a couple of hours can make a huge difference.

"We are a peace loving and well organised association which will continue to help make this great part of England an even better place to live in."
