OVER the course of December, members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA) from Tilford took part in a range of charitable activities and on New year’s Day, nine members took to the streets of Farnham in liaison with Farnham Town Council to clear the streets of litter.
The young men, donning ‘Muslims for Humanity’ high-vis jackets walked through Gostrey Meadow, West Street and Castle Street picking up any litter.
As well as this six members donated various food items to the Farnham Foodbank, these included sugar, cereals, teabags and biscuits.
Local co-ordinator for AMYA Harris Hafeez said: “Serving humanity is a fundamental part of faith. Our religion teaches us that we must honour the rights of God and of mankind.
“These charitable efforts are a part of our duties and responsibilities to serve our fellow citizens. The Holy Prophet of Islam, Muhammad taught that loyalty to one’s nation is part of faith and that cleanliness is half of faith.
“So it was great to have the opportunity to put into practice both these Islamic teachings, especially in a time when some Muslims betray their faith and fail to practice the true teachings of Islam.”
In other news four members made their way to Cumbria to assist in flood relief efforts as part of a nationwide initiative by AMYA, staying overnight in Manchester at the Darul Aman (House of Security) Mosque.
Over the next two days they helped elderly residents in Keswick clean up debris and mud from their homes. They liaised with local town councils and the fire service who were helping locals get back to normality after the floods.
AMYA has planned further events and activities over the course of the year including tree planting, blood drives, elderly home visits and homeless feedings. For more information go to www.muslimsforhumanity.org.uk.
