Ahmadiyya Muslim Association (AMA) South Australia held its annual Australia Day celebrations at its Adelaide mosque, Mahmood Mosque, in Beverley, on Saturday 30th of January 2016.
The event was attended by more than 400 guests including the Governor of SA, His Excellency the Honourable Hieu Van Le AO, Federal and State MPs, Mayors and representatives of Mayors, Councillors, local government officials, interfaith leaders, SA Police officials, researchers and academics, university students, neighbours and local community members.
The celebrations began with a flag hoisting where the Governor of SA, His Excellency the Honourable Hieu Van Le AO raised the South Australian State Flag and the National President, Imam Inam-ul-Haq Kauser raised the National Australia Flag. When the flags were raised up the young boys and girls of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community sang the Australian National Anthem ‘Advance Australia Fair’.
The formal proceedings began with a recitation from the Holy Quran and its translation in English followed by formal acknowledgement of the traditional owners of the land.
Four young Ahmadi children presented short speeches on Islam and loyalty to homeland and what it means to be an Ahmadi Muslim and loyal Australian to them. A number of guest speakers spoke very highly on the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association Australia’s continuous involvement in peace initiatives, community services, interfaith dialogue and participation in activities such as annual blood drives, ‘Clean-up Australia Day’ and ‘Red-Cross Door knock’ appeals.
Once the formal proceedings concluded a complementary dinner was served to all guests who attended the event. At the conclusion of this blessed event National President of the AMA, Imam Inam-ul-Haq Kauser, meet all of the guests and indulged in a conversation with them.
