"I would encourage all women who are curious and women who are willing to embrace diversity. You know our strength in this area is our diversity, and I enjoy that."

While many North Texans will be preparing to watch the Super Bowl, the Women's Auxiliary of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Dallas will hold a mosque open house to help North Texas women understand the difference between true Islam and extremism.

U.S. Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson, D-TX, is invited to be the guest of honor at the open house on Feb. 7.

The event includes a presentation, followed by a question-and-answer session focused on the True Islam and the Extremists campaign. The campaign’s objective is to educate the public and provide Americans with a clear way to distinguish true Islam from extremism.

In an interview with NBC 5, Rep. Johnson said she is happy to attend the event, which is free and only for women.

"I would encourage all women who are curious and women who are willing to embrace diversity," she said. "You know our strength in this area is our diversity, and I enjoy that."

The congresswoman said this organization behind the event was among those that reached out to her after tornadoes hit North Texas on Dec. 26, 2015. Johnson's district includes Glenn Heights, which was among the communities hit by tornadoes.

"They were some of the first people who contacted me and said we want to give money and we want to bring some goods," Johnson said. "They brought two truckloads of underwear and jackets and socks and food, and contributed $1,500 that they got just in a matter of days."

"I don't think we would be true to our area unless we appreciate and value diversity," she added.

The event is set for Sunday, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Baitul Ikram Mosque, located at 1850 Hedgcoxe Road, Allen, TX 75013.
