The money raised would help people desperately in need, including those devastated by Cyclone Winston in Fiji.

Sunnybank Red Cross is asking thousands of southsiders to dig deep this month for Red Cross Calling.

About a dozen volunteers from Sunnybank Red Cross will be joined by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association volunteers at Sunnybank Plaza from March 7-13.

Sunnybank Red Cross branch secretary Peter Knight said Red Cross Calling had been running for more than 60 years.

“People generally do donate, even if it’s just a spare coin in their pocket or purse ... it all adds up,” Mr Knight said.

Mr Knight said the money raised would help people desperately in need, including those devastated by Cyclone Winston in Fiji.

Red Cross Calling is hoping to raise about $2 million across Australia this March, with about $2000 of that coming from the Sunnybank Plaza collection.
