Perspective: Brussels attack wrongly performed under guise of Islam | Iftekhar Ahmad

Having visited Brussels in 2009, I was shocked, angered and saddened to see the senseless act of terrorism that took place Tuesday. I mourn with and also stand with my brothers and sisters in Belgium. This barbaric act was performed under the guise of Islam.
As a Muslim born in America, I cannot stand idly as my religion continues to be misrepresented. The cowardly acts of Islamic State, or ISIS, is completely contradictory to what Islam truly represents. The Quran clearly condemns such violent acts, stating, “Whosoever killed a person … It shall be as if he killed all mankind” (5:32).
Furthermore, the head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Mirza Masroor Ahmad, stated after another attack, “… those who seek to justify their hateful acts in the name of Islam are serving only to defame it in the worst possible way.” I will pray for all those affected and hope that justice will be served.
