“The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is shocked by the murder of Mr Asad Shah of Glasgow. It was a completely brutal, horrific and unjustified attack and such murders are a cause of extreme grief and sadness and our prayers are with the victim and his family. Surely to Allah we belong and to Him shall we return (Holy Quran, chapter 2, verse 157).
“In any society, all members of the public have a right to safety and it is up to the Government and police to protect members of the public as best they can. In this context it is up to the Government to root out all forms of extremism and the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community has been speaking about the importance of this for many years.
“It is hoped that those involved in this heinous crime are brought to justice and that their punishment is a means of deterrence to others who harbour any form of religious extremism or hatred. Certainly there is no place for any form of extremism in a civilised and peaceful society.
“May Allah grant patience and comfort to the family of Mr Shah during this difficult time and may Allah the Almighty exhibit His mercy and grace on the deceased. Ameen.”
