There is so much back and forth discussion about Muslims in our world today that the League of Women Voters of Winnebago County has asked Khurram Ahman, President of the Oshkosh Chapter of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, to be our lunch speaker. He will help us to understand Islam which is one of the largest religions in the world with over 1 billion followers who are called Muslims. Islam is a monotheistic faith based on revelations received by the Prophet Mohammad in the 7th century. The faith’s central tenet is submission to the word of God. Today the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community continues to be an advocate for universal human rights and protections for religious and other minorities.
This is an opportunity to listen and learn about this faith and there will be time to ask any questions we may have. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is the leading Islamic organization to categorically reject terrorism in any form. Are there ways we can work together toward that end?
The lunch will be held on Wednesday, March 9, at Primo restaurant, 2605 Jackson St. Attendees are asked to arrive around 11:50 a.m. and may order off the menu. The program begins shortly after noon. No reservation is necessary and the public is welcome.
Contact Ann at 920-231-8002 or visit the League’s website at www.lwvwinnebago.orgfor more information about the luncheon and membership in the League of Women Voters. The mission of LWV is to encourage participation in government and discussion about major public policy issues. The League neither supports nor opposes candidates or political parties.
