According to a United Nations report spanning a period of two years, 18802 civilians have been killed while 36, 245 were wounded in Iraq. All of these casualties are attributed to ISIS. Adding to this ongoing list of casualties is more than 90 Shiites who were killed by the terror group in Baghdad yesterday.

As ISIS keeps committing atrocities in Syria, Iraq and other parts of the world in the name of Islam, politicians and media pundits are stoking the flame of Islamophobia which just keeps spreading. Recently, the yearbook at a high school in Rancho Cucamonga, California mislabeled a Muslim girl as Isis Phillips. The seventeen year old high school junior, Bayan Zehlif, is a Muslim who wears the headscarf. Although the school claimed that the mistake was not intentional or with malice the young woman has been clearly disturbed by being associated with criminals. In another instance a student from University of California at Berkeley was interrogated because a fellow passenger overheard him speaking Arabic and using the word “Inshallah” which means God willing.

To extinguish the flames of Islamophobia and misunderstandings regarding the peaceful message of Islam, the World Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, the Fifth Khalifa (Caliph) His Holiness Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, has been speaking to heads of states and other political figures throughout Europe. On May 9, His Holiness was the keynote speaker at a reception held in his honor at the Hilton Hotel, Copenhagen, Denmark.

More than 125 politicians, academics and community leaders attended the historic event, including H.E. Mr. Bertel Haarder, Minister for Cultural Affairs and Minister for Ecclesiastical Affairs. The guest list also included Mayor of Lolland, Hon. Holger Schou Rasmussen, and Members of Parliament, Hon. Ulla Sandbaek, Hon. Jan Messman, and Hon. Josephine Fock.

His Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad refuted the allegation that Islam is a religion of violence and stated:
“A charge that is often levelled at Islam is that it was spread violently by the sword. This allegation is completely unfounded and indeed nothing could be further from the truth. All of the wars fought during the life of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) and the four rightly guided Caliphs who succeeded him, were entirely defensive in nature, where war had been forced upon them.”

With regards to the false portrayal of Islam’s Prophet Muhammad His Holiness said:
“Even here in Denmark, some years ago, there were cartoons printed that sought to ridicule the Founder of Islam (peace be upon him) and to portray him, God forbid, as an imperialistic leader and belligerent warmonger. This unjust portrayal of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) defies history and defies the truth. The reality was that the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) was forever enslaved by his determination to establish peace and the rights of humanity.”

During his address, His Holiness condemned all forms of terrorism and extremism as “hateful and wicked” and said that such acts had no link whatsoever to Islam’s teachings. His Holiness also condemned certain non-Muslim powers for adopting “unjust acts and policies”.

In conclusion, His Holiness remarked:
“May we soon emerge from the bitter conflicts of today to a better and brighter future in which all nations and all groups are able to live side by side and in which a spirit of love, compassion and humanity prevails.”
