Congregation promotes true understanding of Islam

Allen Police Chief Brian Harvey spoke at an event hosted by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Dallas on Sunday at Kerr Elementary School. Harvey commended the community for its efforts to distinguish true Islam from the radicalism that’s given the religion a soiled reputation in recent years.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Dallas held an event titled “True Islam and the Extremists,” focusing on loyalty to Jihad, on Sunday at Kerr Elementary School in Allen.

The event was the continuation of the national True Islam and the Extremists campaign to promote the correct understanding of Islam.

The gathering brought together people from all walks of life, including public officials. Featured speakers included Bilal Rana, national president of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Organization, and Suhail Kausar, president of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Dallas chapter.

Allen Police Chief Brian Harvey, who commended the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community for its commitment to promoting peace and fighting terrorism, attended the event. Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson was not able to attend, but her letter applauding the efforts of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community was read to the audience.

Rana elaborated on the 11 principles distinguishing "True Islam" from extremism. The principles identify key tenets of faith, including non-violent jihad, equality of women, "separation of mosque and state," a commitment that no religion can "monopolize salvation," and others.

The presentations were followed by a Q&A session through which the audience asked questions on a variety of topics including radicalization of Muslim youth, ISIS and its influence and need for unified Muslim leadership.
