The Virgin Mary’s role as a common thread between Christianity and Islam will be the topic of an Interfaith Seminars program from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday in St. Joseph University Catholic Church, 3269 Main St.

“Most Americans are not aware that Mother Mary is mentioned in the Holy Qur’an and that a whole chapter is dedicated in her name,” says Shanaz Butt, former national president of the Women’s Auxiliary Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, who will present a lecture.

“As more people learn that Islam honors and respects Mother Mary and her son, Prophet Jesus, they will realize that Islam is not a religion that preaches violence and hatred for people who belong to other religions,” she adds.

Following her lecture, there will be a discussion led by Nur Haleem, past president of the Rochester chapter of the Women’s Auxiliary, and Sister Marian Baumler of the Catholic Sisters of St. Mary of Namur.

All are welcome. Refreshments will be served. Pre-registration is recommended online at InterfaithSeminars.org.
