Members from one of Britain’s oldest Muslim communities have gathered on a 210-acre site at East Worldham, near Alton, this weekend to celebrate their 50 Annual Convention known as Jalsa Salana.

Earlier today, the Khalifa of Islam and the world head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, His Holiness, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad inaugurated the Jalsa Salana event.

The three-day international event is being held at Hadeeqatul Mahdi in Alton, Hampshire and has attracted great interest with at least 35,000 delegates arriving from over 100 countries.

The event informally began with His Holiness leading the Friday prayers before the Jalsa Salana and recommenced at 4.30pm when His Holiness raised the Flag of Ahmadiyyat to officially open the Convention.

As a symbol of the British Ahmadiyya Muslim's commitment and loyalty to the United Kingdom, simultaneously the Union Jack was also raised in following the teachings of the Holy Founder of Islam, the Prophet Muhammad who taught that love of one’s nation is part of one’s faith.

His Holiness Mirza Masroor Ahmad addressed the opening session that was carried live worldwide by Muslim Television Ahmadiyya (MTA)'s broadcast satellite network and internet streaming service.

MTA began a live coverage of the Annual Convention well in advance and will continue until the convention comes to close on Sunday.
