Ghana: T.I. Ahmadiyya Amass Senior High School clerk in trouble over theft of GH¢245,000.00

Kumasi: A clerk of the T.I Ahmadiyya Senior High School (SHS) has run into trouble with the law over the theft of an amount of GHȼ245,000.00 belonging to the school.
Daniel Oteng, 29, was on Wednesday put before a Kumasi Circuit Court, to answer charges of forgery of document and stealing.
He pleaded not guilty and was granted a GH¢260,000.00 bail with two sureties.
The court, presided over by, Mrs. Mary Nsenkyire, ordered that he made his next appearance on Tuesday, October 11.
Police Chief Inspector Timothy Amoakosaid the accused has been assigned the duty of depositing the school’s money into an account, it has been operating at the Kumasi branch of the Bank of Ghana.
He told the court that the accused, last year, managed to forge the bank’s stamp and used that to stamp the “pay-in-slip” anytime he was asked to deposit money into the account.
Through this, he succeeded in stealing a total of GHȼ245,000.00.
The crime was detected on July 26, when a cheque for GHȼ43,928.00 presented to the bank by the SHS was dishonoured for inadequate funds.
The prosecution said the Headmaster, Alhaji A. B. Abubakar, followed up to find out why and he was informed that no money was put into the school’s account between January, 2015, and July, this year.
A formal report was made to the police and he was arrested.
Oteng in his caution statement confessed to the crime.
