Uganda: Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission championing global peace, Ugandan Veep

The Vice President of Uganda Edward Ssekandi has said that the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission has embarked on visible activities in his country.  

The Mission he noted have been involved in improving education; providing  quality health care, water and has contributed immensely to improving the lives of the people of Uganda he added.  

Speaking on the sidelines of the  50th Jalsa Salana (Annual Convention) of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in the United Kingdom, Edward Ssekandi commended the organizers and their role in ensuring peace, and unity across the globe.  

He said, he was happy to have associated himself with the organization due to their objective which is aimed at improving the lives of poor people worldwide.   ''...I have seen what they are doing. The people here are from various parts of the world including African countries. They are helping people in the areas of education,  health, and water and so i'm happy to associate myself with the organisation.''  

Edward Ssekandi commenting on the freedom of worship in Uganda said, there is freedom of worship in Uganda. "There are many religions, and these religions have done a lot for the country. They have provided a lot of services to the people. They have built almost 80 percent of schools in Uganda. They have provided many hospitals where people go for treatment; they are providing people with services like water...We have no problems with them. Uganda is peaceful.''  

On the issue on terrorism and extremism, the African leader explained that, they are trying to fight and reduce it.   According to him, education forms part of efforts in preventing terrorism and extremism. ''Such a thing is useless, and counter productive. Let us have peace and live together, and i think the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission is playing a key role in preventing them."  

He indicated that the country is doing its best to manage any threat of terrorism and extremism since one could identify what people think or would want to do in the shortest possible time.  

Edward Ssekandi stressed the need for African countries and leaders to support the Mission in achieving the objective of ensuring global peace.  

When asked the message he would take back home from the annual event, he said, ''since we need development, lets support peace.''
