Central Regional Youth Wing of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Movement (AMM) has organised a peace walk in Cape Coast in the Central Region to sensitise people in the area on the need for peaceful co-existence in this electioneering period.
The three-and-a-half hour walk which started from Abura through the principal streets in the metropolis had youth of the Roman Catholic and Methodist Churches participating.
They exhibited patriotism by singing patriotic songs while embarking on the walk with most of them holding placards with peace messages.
They later converged at the premises of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly where they prayed for peace and successful conduct of the upcoming general elections.
Central-West President of the Youth Wing, Mr. Sadique Bin Usman, explained that the walk was to showcase to the nation that there can be peaceful co-existence in the country in spite of our varied political preferences.
He pointed out that the exercise was also to prove to the world that Muslims are peace- loving people contrary to the perception that Muslim youth are only good at causing violence.
“Muslim youth have been unscrupulously used by politicians to perpetuate violence during elections so this initiative is to tell them we don’t condone violence,” he emphasised.
Cape Coast Missionary of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, Mr. Ustaz Ibrahim Ishaque Arkoh on his part charged Ghanaians to be guided by what election violence has done to other African countries.
He called on all Ghanaians to put hands on deck to ensure that the country is not stripped off its relative peace and tranquility so that development can thrive.
