Many of my friends have been asking my reaction on Trump’s win and Clinton’s loss and what he would do to Muslims, Latino’s, Women and Veterans?

Many of us were overwhelmed on election night with Donald Trump’s surprise win as the 45th President of the United States. Most of my friends, family, and I were supporters of Senator Bernie Sanders in the primary and then moved on to support Secretary Clinton.
Also, the same night, my daughter Raaheela Ahmed (www.raaheela.com) pulled a stunning win over a candidate who was supported by nearly the entire local elected officials and Democratic operatives and who was also endorsed by the Washington Post.
I watched the results of the presidential race and went to bed with a feeling that Hillary Clinton will win the race. My wife woke me up and said that Donald Trump won the presidency. I did not believe it and many of my friends have difficulty believing it. I am pretty sure those who opposed Raaheela may have difficulty believing that their candidate lost.
In the morning, when my Mom got up who had worked tirelessly taking care of the home on election day while we were campaigning was stunned faced when Raaheela said that Hillary Clinton lost.
Many of my friends have been asking my reaction on Trump’s win and Clinton’s loss and what he would do to Muslims, Latino’s, Women and Veterans?
My standard answer is not to worry. I have ran myself many times and helped over three dozen campaigns over the years and lot happens in campaigns to put the opponent down, discredit and destroy. Campaigning and governing are two different functions and Donald Trump will be the president of the entire United States of America not just for those who voted for him.
Majority of the country disagrees with his agenda, his choices for his cabinet, and his advisors. We have enough checks and balances in our government and should let our political process play out- have faith in American democracy.
Hillary Clinton summarized very well in her eloquent concession speech, "Donald Trump is going to be our president. We owe him an open mind and a chance to lead." We, Americans respect the outcome of the elections and will have to just wait and see the team Donald Trump builds around him and how he unifies us all.
Let us watch closely. Applaud on what we agree with him. Criticize constructively on what we disagree and in the process empower voters to be engaged in the process. I certainly hope this election will force reluctant voters and participants to be more engaged. Like engaged employees improves the bottom line of the company, engaged citizens will make American stronger.
