'Peace and unity between all peoples, nations and religions'

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA) have launched their latest Poppy Appeal after raising hundreds of thousands of pounds for the Royal British Legion.

Over 600 young Muslims have been collecting donations in stations, airports, stadiums and high streets around the country in an effort to add to their current total of raising £200,000 for the Royal British Legion (RBL) over the last nine years.

The Poppy Appeal was officially launched on Friday, November 4, at a serious of events attended by MPs including Stephen Hammond at the Baitul Futuh Mosque in Morden and Justine Greening at the London Mosque in Southfields, while Chris Grayling hosted AMYA at his offices in Epsom.

Community fundraiser co-ordinator at the RBL, Deborah Armantrading, said: “AMYA have been crucial in raising funds for the RBL’s Poppy Appeal for several years, participating in mass collections all over the UK.

“The Legion are extremely pleased with the enthusiasm and commitment from all the volunteers.

“We enjoy working with AMYA, as they are dedicated and passionate about their charity work, and the Poppy Appeal would not be the same without their help.”

National President of AMYA, Mirza Waqas Ahmad, said: “As Muslims it is our responsibility to show loyalty to our country of residence and work for the betterment of our country.

“We therefore hope that our participation is a clear indication of our desire for peace and unity between all peoples, nations and religions.”

AMYA is the largest Muslim youth organisation in the UK, and works to challenge extremism and support charities around the country.
