Sierra Leone: Humanity First on Class Room Transformation drive

Humanity First is a non-governmental organization operating in Sierra Leone has on Saturday 4th. February, 2016 commenced a nation- wide activities at the Ahmadiyya Muslim primary School, Goderich to refurbish class rooms in the country so that school going pupils would have a conducive learning environment.

Mr. Muhamed Akbar Iqeal from UK Class Room Transformation Project said the project is to encourage pupils to stay at school and attracts other children that have dropped out of school to go back to school.

He added that the project is a long -term project that aim at keeping the class rooms clean and tidy always so that pupils and children would live in a health environment. Mr. Muhamed went further that part of the project activities includes painting and decorations of the class rooms with learning materials to enable school going children to learn easily and adopts healthy practices throughout the country. He continued that head teachers and head mistress should take ownership of the project by ensuring that they monitor and supervised school going pupils not to destroy the facilities.

Muhamed Akbar Iqeal also admonished school going pupils to take proper care of the facilities as it would help them greatly in their academic endeavour.He maintained that the project has already commenced and so far, they have transformed over six class rooms in the Western Area of Freetown.  He disclosed that the project has long started in Jordan, Gambia and Uganda in which school going children have benefitted immensely. He added that Sierra Leone also stands to benefit greatly as it will encourage school going children to stay at school and learn.

The chairman for Humanity First Sierra Leone chapter, Mr. Sidique Sankoh said at the end of this year they will paint and decorate over thirty (30) schools nation-wide. ‘’We are expecting to cover over thirty schools throughout the country,’’ he said. He added that after the end of the Ebola fight in the country, some school going pupils voluntarily abandoned schools for no good reasons and the project would go a long way in attracting them to go back to school and take their academic work seriously. He went on that part of the project package is not only to decorate the class rooms but they will also provide learning materials to school going children. Mr. Sankoh said they embarked on this project principally to encourage school going children to stay at school and take their academic work seriously.
