UK: Plans for new mosque building for Cardiff Ahmadiyya site refused for peculiar reasons
The applicant, Ahmadiyya Muslim Association, said the site would be used as a place of worship but also for education, training, fundraising and events including weddings and charity events.

The Cardiff Council planning committee has refused again plans to turn the former Ian Williams building on Sanatorium Road into a two-storey mosque.
The Ahmadi Muslims, who use the existing building to pray, want to convert it into a more conventional mosque by building a minaret, a dome and a home for the Imam as well as a community facility.
Council officers said the application failed to address the increase of traffic likely to be caused.
An agent acting for the Ahmadi Muslim community, David Williams, said frustration at traffic issues raised is “wrongly directed”.
Mr Williams said: “Quite why a minor application should be subject to this level of scrutiny is beyond me.”
Canton’s three ward councillors previously voiced opposition to the plans and a petition from 150 local residents was submitted.
No local ward councillors were present at the committee.
Ahmadi Muslims currently use the building to pray and the community use it for certain events.
The site was granted a place of worship classification in 2015, and the same classification was sought for the proposed extension.
