U.S. Congressman and Former co-chair of the bipartisan Ahmadiyya Muslim caucus, Ted Poe has urged the U.S.to designate Pakistan as a "State Sponsor of Terrorism".
A "strongly worded" bill to declare Pakistan as a state sponsor of terrorism has been introduced in the US Congress, a media report said on Friday.
The bill requires President Donald Trump to issue a report within 90 days detailing whether Pakistan has provided support for worldwide terrorism.
Claiming that Islamabad deceived America regarding its nuclear-weapons production and exporting extremist terrorism, they said the "US has acquiesced in a toxic relationship with Pakistan for decades".
Congressman Poe served as the co-chair for the Ahmadiyya caucus during the 114th congress and was replaced by his Republican colleague Congressman Pete King for the 115th Congress.
They suggested three immediate steps the USA administration could take to reset America's relationship with Pakistan: "Don't let the next crisis in South or Southwest Asia deflect our focus".
Pakistani, they argued, had become a "quasi-adversary, receiving hundreds of billions through the years in direct and indirect USA support".
Congressman Ted Poe, a renowned Indian lobbyist, is head of a congressional committee on terrorism, nonproliferation and trade while James Clad was a deputy assistant secretary of defence for Asia in the George W Bush administration.
Poe and Clad wrote that Pakistan has become a quasi-adversary, receiving hundreds of billions through the years in direct and indirect U.S. support.
"But something must change in our dealings with a terrorist-supporting, irresponsible nuclear-weapons state, and it must change soon. Acquiescing in the current trends is not an option", they added. "I believe that the efforts will have a positive impact in fighting terrorism", MP Fawzia Kofi said. "World pressures should be increased on Pakistan in order to ensure peace in Afghanistan and eliminate terrorists in the region", Faisal said.
Here's what they suggested in balancing "toxic terms" with Pakistan. "They had been supportive recently with U.S. commander in Afghanistan Gen Nicholson in some operations along the border", he said while referring to the Pakistan military.
He also said, "Most notably, the Pakistani Navy is the most consistent and longstanding participant, second only to the United States, in Combined Task Force (CTF)-150 (counter-terrorism operations) and CTF-151 (counter-piracy operations) led by US Naval Forces Central (USNAVCENT)".
He said the Pakistan Army continues to conduct counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations in the FATA and helps maintaining coalition operations in Afghanistan.
