The Elders group, Majlis Ansarullah has called on government and Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities (ASUU) to find lasting solution to strikes in the educational sector of the economy and save the sector from collapse.

In a communiquĂ© issued and signed by Engr. Abdul Waheed Adeoye, the Sadr (Head) and Dr Akinreti Qasim of the organisation’s editorial board, at the 42nd Annual National Ijtema (Conference) of the Majlis Ansarullah, Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Elders Group in Nigeria, held at AL-Azhar International College, Zango – Daji, Lokoja, Kogi State, the group said the strike would have serious negative impact on the socio-economic development of Nigeria.

“The academic calendar is now unpredictable, quality of teaching and learning educational institutions have sunk to the low ebb, and graduates of these institutions are no longer employable, while brain drain has hit the higher institutions. These surely are negative commentaries on Nigeria’s educational sector”.

The group also lamented the poor state of roads which have become death traps thereby impacting negatively on transportation business. It noted that absence of rail transportation had put pressures on our roads.

“Corruption, has destroyed our social fabric which has gradually brought Nigeria to her knees; hence the current efforts by the Buhari administration to rid the country of corruption.”

The group urged the federal government to assist states and local governments in the payment of workers’ salaries, prompt payment of retirees and other emoluments. In line with the theme of the conference, they called on members to continue to demonstrate moral and spiritual training and learning within the Ahmadiyya community to attract more converts into the fold.
