Saskatoon is set to play host to the western Canadian chapters of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at at this year’s Jalsa Salana Western Canada convention.
The convention is meant to bring light to present issues facing the Muslim communities in Canada and around the world said Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Saskatoon spokesperson Mubarik Syed.
Expecting to draw a crowd of around 3,000 people, including academics, diplomats and politicians from all levels of government, Syed says this will be a great time to learn and connect.
“It’s an open invitation to everybody in any walk of life, any background or religion. Anybody and everybody is welcome.”
Taking place all weekend at the Henk Ruys Soccer Centre on Primrose Drive, Saturday will consist of two separate sessions beginning at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. respectively, with a third concluding session beginning Sunday morning at 11 a.m.
Each session will have different speakers covering different topics including: Living a simple life, faith-inspiring incidents in the propagation of Islam Ahmadiyyat and 150 years of Canada: A global role model of humanitarian values.

“We like to build bridges,” Syed says. “Our community is such that no matter where we are we like to be part of the society and part of the system in whatever way we can. This is one area we have not explored extensively so far, so we are hoping to get the First Nations community closer to us to share whatever good we have and share whatever good they have.”
The first ever Jalsa Salana convention took place in Qadian, India in 1891 and since then has spread worldwide.
