Over the weekend, a fight broke out on Main Street. The altercation occurred right outside the Bait-ul-Zikr Mosque on 370 Main St., and one of the windows facing the street was broken. Blood and glass were littered both inside and outside the building. I sincerely hope that whoever was hurt in the altercation is doing better now.

The individuals who broke the glass probably didn't know it was a mosque. They were probably either too drunk or too angry to care. But I do care about them and the community at large.

A mosque is meant to act as a center of peace and tranquility for the entire community, not just for Muslims but for people of all faiths and no faith. I'm not angry at those people who broke the window. Rather I would like them to know that I love them, and I pray that whatever was troubling them this weekend is over and gone now.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community lives by a simple motto of "Love for All, Hatred for None." We believe that every human being is deserving of love. We Ahmadi Muslims are praying for a safer and more peaceful Fitchburg.

One way we hope to achieve this is by opening our doors to the community. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community regularly holds weekly coffee, cake, and True Islam events at our mosque every Saturday at 6 p.m. Everyone is welcome. It's completely free, and you don't need to break any windows to come.
