The third peace conference which aims to promote ‘loyalty, freedom, respect and equality’ was held by Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Tooting last week.

Shadow minister for disabilities and Battersea MP Marsha de Cordova was in attendance with Mayor of Merton Marsie Skeete, president of the Tooting Hindu Society Sunita Rai and others.

Speakers at the conference are said to have addressed ‘various aspects of peace’ in society, with Ahmadiyya Muslim community president Shakeel Ahmed expressing gratitude to attendees for their work in the area.

Imam Ata Ul Mujeeb Rashid of the London Mosque also spoke about Islam’s teachings on neighbourhood, peace, tolerance and brotherhood.

In addition, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Awards for 2017 were presented to the borough’s emergency services, including staff from Wandsworth’s police and fire stations and St George’s Hospital.

Other people at the conference also included president of the Buhddhapadipa Temple venerable phramaha Bhatsakorn Piyobhaso, Revd Dr Andrew Davey, Wandsworth Labour party leader Cllr Simon Hogg, Wandsworth Police and others.

The event was held on Friday, October 13.
