Seattle’s Ahmadiyya Muslim Community took to The Ave over the weekend to answer questions and resolve any misconceptions the general population might have on the subject of Islam.

Part of the #MeetAMuslim campaign, a stop at the UW was just one of several posts by the community in Seattle. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community takes part in this campaign once a month in cities across the country, in combination with a weekly “Coffee, Cake, and Islam” event.

Suleman Mubarik stood on a sidewalk, holding a sign advertising the campaign. Mubarik is a volunteer for and member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community’s Seattle chapter in Monroe, and he said that the response has been very good.

Mubarik said that #MeetAMuslim aims to bring people together, and the invitational atmosphere of the campaign opens the experience up to productive conversation.

Standing on the street for about two hours, Mubarik said he engaged in meaningful conversations with about two dozen people, in which he was able to explain some of the basics of Islam and leave participants with information flyers. The U-District stop coincided with Saturday visits to Pike Place Market and Ballard.
