Lively, cheerful and colorful was the theme at Café Patchwork, when six young men from a Muslim community in Betzdorf took command of the kitchen. When it became known that members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community were preparing and spending the meal that day, the visitors and staff of the day's stay were eager to see what it would taste like. Many surprised the composition of Asian fragrances and spices that filled the room. And obviously it has tasted all.
The Café Patchwork is the diaconal day-care center in South Westphalia and provides people in socially difficult living situations with a place to stay and retreat. Guests of the café can warm up here, have a coffee, have a hot meal, take a shower or wash and dry their clothes. But the café patchwork team around Barbara Wied helps even more, has an open ear for the needs and problems of the guests and seeks solutions together with them. "For guests who come regularly, we feel immediately if there are physical or mental problems. Then we offer talks and very practical help, "explained Wied.
Practical help - this was also the goal of the team, which swung the wooden spoons with Anser Iqbal and his brother Athar and eagerly handed the food over to around 60 guests. "We do not just want to talk about love, we want to be active for others who need our help. Because that is an elementary part of our faith. Where better to do that than where needy people need help, "said Anser Iqbal, humanitarian affairs coordinator for the Muslim community.

"This action is of course something special for us as a Protestant institution - it evokes the motto Love for all - hatred for no one to live. It makes it clear: Muslim or Christian - we are all human beings and a peaceful coexistence is possible, "says Dirk Strauchmann, head of diaconal homeless assistance.
One of the café's guests aptly stated what many thought: "You're welcome to come back!" And that's what the young Muslims want to do. Barbara Wied and her colleagues are delighted that the community has offered to carry out this activity on a regular basis.
