Indonesia: Well-Known Muslim Scholar Dawam Rahardjo is Sick
Dawam Rahardjo is a former Muhammadiyah leader who is known to be critical of the discriminatory attitude against the adherents of the Ahmadiyya sect in Indonesia.

Muslim intellectual Dawam Rahardjo , 75, is lying sick. Solo-born man known as an economist, businessman, intellectual, NGO activist, Islamic thinker and interpreter has been undergoing intensive care in the hospital for three months because of diabetes, heart disease, and a stroke.
"Now he is beeing taken care of at home, because Mr. Dawam feelt bored in hospital. His illness has not been cured, but Alhamdullilah he has been able to communicate, "said Dawam's nephew, Ruwi Pupun when contacted by Tempo on Saturday, January 20, 2018.
The recipient of Yap Thiam Hien Award in 2013, he is currently being treated at his residence, Jalan Kelapa Kuning III, Block F1 No. 2, Billymoon Housing, Pondok Kelapa, East Jakarta.
Dawam Rahardjo is a former Muhammadiyah leader who is known to be critical of the discriminatory attitude against the adherents of the Ahmadiyya sect in Indonesia. He is known to consistently defend the principles of equality and pluralism as promoted by the late Yap Thiam Hien. Due to his defense of the Ahmadiyya Muslims, his Muhammadiyah organization membership was indirectly terminated.
Dawam has also written many books, both on economic and on Islamic religion. Dawam has been the chairman of ICMI in Indonesia, the leader of the Ulumul Qur'an Science and Culture Journal, and chair of the ELSAF Foundation (Institute for Religious Studies and Philosophy).
