Nigeria: Ahmadiyya youths to reflect on National Peace at 45th Annual Convention


One of the principal objectives of the Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya, founded in Nigeria in 1972, is the moral and spiritual training of youth through a mixture of religious and secular activities.

Youth members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Nigeria will converge in Zaria, Kaduna State to reflect on salient issues on the Nigerian nationhood, especially as it concerns the nation’s youths. The annual convention, which has been held every year since 1972, will hold between Thursday 29th and Sunday 1st April, 2018 at the Alhudahuda College, Zaria, Kaduna State on the theme: National Peace: The Critical Need of the Time.

Discussions at the Convention are expected to underscore the role of youths as crucial agents in nation-building and national development, with the lead paper delivered by an erudite Islamic scholar and university lecturer, Barrister Badr Muhammad Basheer of the Department of Law, Ado Bayero University Kano. Barrister Badr, will speak on the theme: National Peace: The Critical Need of the Time.

Highlights of the convention include free health care delivery at the Palace of Emir of Zazzau; a public lecture on the topic The Holy Prophet Muhammad as agent of peace to humanity to be delivered by Muallim Ishaaq Habeeb.

As part of the convention, Ahmadi youths will also engage in a community development exercise in Zaria. The convention will also feature a peace procession in the town.

It is dedicated to ensuring its members develop and excel in qualities such as piety, honesty and fair dealing so that they can better contribute to the country in which they live. The motto of the Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya is “Nations Cannot be Reformed without the Reformation of the Youths”.

As a reflection of this motto, the activities of MKA are not limited to the Muslim community. It serves the needs of all members of society irrespective of colour, race, religion or creed and promotes interfaith dialogue and co-operation in order to promote peace and harmony. As part of this year’s Annual Convention, Ahmadiyya youths will engage in activities such as speech contests, Quran recitation competition, sports events, quiz competitions among others.

Dignitaries expected at the event include the Executive Governor of Kaduna State, His Excellency Mallam Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai; the Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shehu Idris; Amir (Head) of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at in Nigeria, Dr. Mashood Adenrele Fashola and Missionary-in-Charge of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at in Nigeria, Maulana Afzaal Ahmad Rauf Sahib. Other dignitaries invited for the event include Professor Abdul Raheem Giwa of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Dr. Saheed Timehin of Lagos State University, Lagos, Maulvi Nurudeen Okubena, President of National Youth Council of Nigeria, Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Kaduna State, Police Area Commanders, Kaduna State Command, Kaduna State Ministry Officials, Heads of Religious Organizations among others

A high point of the event will be the presentation of awards of excellence to state chapters of the organization who have excelled in different categories. This award ceremony rewards performance over the last one year of activities in the organization.
