Jamaat-e-Islami historically the mother of all terrorism in Pakistan, as its militant student wing, Islami Jamiat-e-Talba (IJT) were the ones, who spearheaded the Kalashnikov culture in Pakistan under the patronage of the then their Amirul Momineen, General Mohammad Zia-ul-Huque, while currently the Punjab ruling party, Muslim League- Nawaz (ML-N) being the heir-apparent of the General naturally finds itself almost on the same ideological wave length, no wonder has given a free hand to the IJT goons in the province thrashing and bullying all those who challenge their terror and in the process the oldest and largest seat of learning in the country, the Punjab University has presently fallen their worst victim.

The Punjab University (PU) has filed a petition against the Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) and the New Muslim Town station house officer (SHO) in the Sessions Court for not registering an FIR against the Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba activists involved in razing the wall of a PU office thrice in the last two days. The writ was filed in the court of Additional Sessions Judge Mehar Muhammad Yousaf under 22-A, 22-B Pakistan Penal Code 1860.

PU spokesman said the IJT workers had pulled down a wall of the office of the PU Resident Officer-II’s staff three times during the last two days. He said the administration had contacted the police officers concerned many a time and an application for registration of FIR was also sent to the SHO. He said the PU security Head Watch had himself approached the relevant SHO with an application duly recommended by the resident officer of the varsity. The Head Watch, who was thrashed by the IJT in the incident, waited for the registration of an FIR for three hours in the police station in the evening on December 1. He claimed the police officials and the SHO read the application many a time and refused to accept the application due to unknown reasons. The police officials received the application on December 2 at 12 noon after they approached the DIG. However, no FIR has been registered so far.

The spokesman said such an attitude with the oldest and largest seat of learning in the country by the police officials was shocking. “Over 30,000 students are getting education at the PU and about a dozen political workers of a group are disturbing the varsity’s environment. But the police are not cooperating with us,” he added.

He said in the petition that the varsity lawyer had given a reference of PLD 2007-Supreme Court in which Mr. Justice Khalil Ur Rehman Ramday had ordered action against those creating hurdles in the registration of an FIR. “The PU sought registration of an FIR against the IJT activists, including Usman Ashraf, Waseem, Rehan, Aamir Yaqoob, Aurangzaib, Jamshaid, Israr and their unknown accomplices as well as an enquiry against police officials, including the Lahore CCPO and the New Muslim Town SHO,” the statement concluded.
