A “ground-breaking” inter-faith group has marked a major milestone.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Association Liaison group was set up in 1996 after the community’s decision to build a mosque in Morden prompted complaints from residents.
This week the group, which was founded to answer questions about the community and its religion, held its 50th meeting. The group now discusses wider community issues affecting the area, but still provides a link between mosque users and other Morden residents.
Councillor Peter Southgate said he was proud to be chairman of the “ground-breaking” group.
He said: "It is a great testament to the residents in the area, whatever their faith or background, that we can get together and discuss freely and frankly issues of concern."
