USA: Southpark cartoon does not warrant violence

“The Southpark cartoon was clearly in poor taste. But no matter how tasteless the act, Islam does not prescribe a threat of violence as a response.” [Dr. Nasim Rehmatullah, Vice President, Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA.]

Ahmadiyya Muslim Community speaks against threats to comedy network:
Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA strongly condemns the implicit and explicit threats of violence made by “Revolution Muslim” against Southpark’s producers. As Muslims who believe in the Messiah, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community champions the intellectual “jihad of the pen” to defend Islam instead of resorting to threats of violence which bring shame to the true peaceful teachings of Islam.

“The Southpark cartoon was clearly in poor taste” said Dr. Nasim Rehmatullah, Vice President of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA. “But no matter how tasteless the act, Islam does not prescribe a threat of violence as a response.”

Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA finds the depiction of the Prophet Muhammad as a teddy bear to be in poor taste and is further offended by depictions of the Prophet Buddha doing drugs and the dear Prophet Jesus watching pornography. Respect is due to all prophets, and such respect is destroyed by defending them with threats of violence.

For peace to reign, peace must be preserved.

About the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community:
Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is a dynamic, reformist and fast growing international movement within Islam. Founded in 1889, the Community spans over 190 countries with membership exceeding tens of millions. Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA, established in 1921, is the first American-Muslim organization.

Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is the only Islamic organization to believe that the long-awaited messiah has come in the person of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (1835-1908) of Qadian. Ahmad claimed to be the metaphorical second coming of Jesus of Nazareth and the divine guide, whose advent was foretold by the Prophet of Islam, Muhammad. The Community believes that God sent Ahmad, like Jesus, to end religious wars, condemn bloodshed and reinstitute morality, justice and peace. Ahmad’s advent has brought about an unprecedented era of Islamic revival and moderation. He divested Islam of fanatical beliefs and practices by vigorously championing Islam’s true and essential teachings.
