Faith and friendship: Rendered speechless

I would like to mention that during the 1971 Indo-Pak war and the 1973 Balochistan operations two outstanding young officers who were my colleagues were Ahmedis. Their bravery and professionalism were far out of the ordinary.

The dastardly attacks on the Ahmedi places of worship in Lahore were shocking. The tragic loss of lives is not only a matter of great regret but something which must fall under the heading of 'national mourning'.

I would like to mention that during the 1971 Indo-Pak war and the 1973 Balochistan operations two outstanding young officers who were my colleagues were Ahmedis. Their bravery and professionalism were far out of the ordinary. It is my good fortune that nearly four decades later, Captain (later Major) Naseer Ahmad Tariq and Lieutenant (later Major) Muhammad Hanif Butt ("Singhawala") remain my best friends.
I am proud to have been associated with them, both in war and in peace, and count them among the finest human beings I have been privileged to know.

I have been rendered so speechless by the horror and shame of the inhuman attack that I have not contacted them out of fear that they must have lost some loved ones and friends in the attacks carried out by the animals.

Through these lines I want to express my solidarity with them and with their kith and kin.
