A PETITION has been filed in the Lahore High Court, seeking a permanent ban on Facebook, a social networking website, in the country pointing out another anti-Islam competition on the website.
Facebook had already faced an interim ban in the country for holding a blasphemous caricature competition, hurting religious sentiments of the whole Muslim community.
The petition was filed by Judicial Activism Panel (JAP) Chairman Muhammad Azhar Siddique advocate who said that Facebook had again announced a contest named ìEverybody Burn-Quran Day’ and also displayed blasphemous pictures of Khana Kaaba.
The petitioner prayed that Facebook might be permanently blocked/banned in Pakistan for placing objectionable and blasphemous caricatures of our Khana Kaaba.
He prayed that act of Facebook might be declared illegal, unIslamic and against the injunctions of Islam and contempt proceedings might be initiated against the owners of the website. He also pleaded that the authorities in Pakistan be directed that no material with respect to blasphemy of any religion or Holy Khana Kaaba be published, displayed, visualized or aired in the country.
Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry will take up this petition on Tuesday.
