...[T]he 44th International Annual Convention of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community came to a close on Sunday. It was held in Hadeeqa-tul-Mahdi, Alton Hampshire, United Kingdom from July 30th till August 1st. This conference was attended by 28,000 people from around the world and millions more were watching it through “Muslim Television Ahmadiyya” channel. The addresses were simultaneously being translated in various languages, such as Arabic, French, and German among others. This conference was entirely run by volunteers. Many dignitaries applauded the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community UK for its organization.

The purpose of this conference in the words of the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) is: “ The primary purpose of this Convention is to enable every sincere individual to personally experience religious benefits; They may enhance their knowledge and –due to their being blessed and enabled by Allah, The Exalted- their perception [ of Allah ] may progress. Among its secondary benefits is that this congregational meeting together will promote mutual introduction among all brothers, and it will strengthen the fraternal ties within this Community..” (Ishtihar 7 Dec. 1892, Majmoo`ah Ishtiharat Vol. I, Page 340).

Under divine direction, the Promised Messiah (a.s.) established the institution of the Annual Convention in Qadian, India. At the first Annual Convention, 75 people attended. By the grace of God, this tradition has continued and now this 3-day gathering is held in more than 50 countries of the world attended by thousands of people!

The highlight of this event was the international pledge ceremony held at the hands of His Holiness, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, Khalifatul Masih V (may Allah support him with His Mighty help). All Ahmadi Muslims, including approximately half million new converts made a solemn oath to abide by the Conditions of Bai’at (pledge of Initiation) and to remain loyal to the peaceful practices of Islam.

In addition, there were speeches presented on topics ranging from “Ways of Developing relationship with God” to “The Holy Prophet Muhummad (pbuh)’s kindness to mankind.”

His Holiness, also addressed the attendees several times discussing the long history of persecution faced by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, specifically the Lahore Incident.

“Those who persecute us had hoped and expected that after the Lahore attacks we would become scared and fearful. But in the wake of that tragedy our true spirit has emerged, that we are not scared of anyone or anything except God Almighty.”

Many dignitaries addressed the guests of this Convention. I will quote some of them in my next article, God willing.

Also, there were many exhibitions and bazaars set up for the participants to enjoy. There were also tents serving hot, free food, to the guests of Promised Messiah (a.s) at all times! Now who wouldn’t want to attend this auspicious and peaceful convention!

About the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is a dynamic, reformist and fast growing international movement within Islam. Founded in 1889, the Community spans over 190 countries with membership exceeding tens of millions. Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA, established in 1921, is the first American-Muslim organization.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is the only Islamic organization to believe that the long-awaited messiah has come in the person of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (1835-1908) of Qadian. Ahmad claimed to be the metaphorical second coming of Jesus of Nazareth and the divine guide, whose advent was foretold by the Prophet of Islam, Muhammad. The Community believes that God sent Ahmad, like Jesus, to end religious wars, condemn bloodshed and reinstitute morality, justice and peace. Ahmad’s advent has brought about an unprecedented era of Islamic revival and moderation. He divested Islam of fanatical beliefs and practices by vigorously championing Islam’s true and essential teachings.
