SPRING VALLEY, Texas -- An international effort that's been making its way around the globe has arrived in Houston in an attempt to take back their faith.
The Ahmeds are part of an unusual campaign called Muslims For Peace, where members act almost as door-to-door salesmen, working on behalf of their beliefs.
"A very small minority doing the terrorist acts. The rest of us are very loyal citizens, our religion teaches us to be loyal," said Ejaz Ahmed.
They belong to the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, which began about 100 years ago in Pakistan. They have fundamental religious differences with other branches of Islam, but point to the Koran for a universal commandment.
"It clearly says, 'love for all, hatred for none,'" said Ahmed.
Residents in Spring Valley were pleasently surprised by the group's effort.
"I think it's wonderful you've taken the initiative," said neighbor Mary Jane Milford to the group.
Over the weekend, they could be seen knocking on doors, once literally stopping traffic.
"This is our country, we are here to serve our country," said Ahmed.
The message of loyalty and peace struck common chords with others in the community.
"We're raising ourt kids the same way, as Christians," said Canaan Factor. "We got a bunch of kids in here and we're trying to tell them the same things."
The group knows it is a small start, but it hopes people like Milford will pass its message along to others.
"I will go back to my town, which is Texas City, and I will tell them about our visit."
