The male youth wing of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama'at, The Gambia, (Majlis Khuddamul Ahmadiyya) has successfully concluded its 27th annual national convention, a dispatch from the Ahmadiyya Head Office, The Gambia, indicated.

The convention held from 24th - 26th December 2010) at Nusrat Senior School in Bundung, attracted participants from across the country and beyond. Over six hundred youth were brought together for the purpose of reforming their attitudes and morals. Addressing participants, Baba F Trawally, the Amir of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama'at drew the attention of youths to the meaningful spending of time. He said that one of the means of usefully spending time is to preach the message of Islam to all and sundry. This, he said, is not an option but an obligation on every believer. "Like the companions of the Holy Prophet Muhammad Mustafa (SAW), hearts must always be filled with the desire to preach the true teachings of Islam and nothing should hinder one from that. Preaching must be done with wisdom and goodly exhortation.
The preacher is not a transformer of hearts but the conveyer of the message and the message should not be interpolated or be couched in words that are incomprehensible to the recipients" he said.

Earlier in his opening address, Tahir Ahmad Touray, the president of the association said that in setting the goals in life, vying with one another in what is good should be the guiding principle. "If that guiding principle is lacking, then the entire edifice of our actions will shatter. We should not only vie each other in doing good; we should also help one another in doing good, righteousness and piety" he advised. He said that corruption and embezzlement of public funds as means of attaining peace of mind or the use of intoxicants like illicit drugs as a flight from the unpleasant realities of life do not guarantee peace of mind. "Youth must not involve in such acts. Hearts should comfort and peace in the remembrance of Allah Almighty and all actions must be founded on the fear of Allah Almighty" he said while calling on youths to be patriotic and selfless servants of their countries in accordance with the saying of the Holy Prophet Muhammad Mustafa (SAW) that love for one's country is part of faith.

"We should always act within the law of our nation and not without it. Let us dissociate ourselves from any activity that seeks to disturb the peace of the country. Let in words and in actions sound the trumpet of loyalty to our country and even if we are cut into pieces, we shall never waver from that," he concluded. Malang Jassey, the director Youth and Sports who represented the minister of Youths and Sports said that the commitment of the organisation as embedded in its pledge, "that you shall always be ready to sacrifice your life, wealth, time and honour, not only for the religion but also for the country and the nation' is the greatest offer anyone can make to his country. This he said is what is call patriotism and love for one's country.

According to him, the Holy Prophet Sayyedna Muhammad (SAW) has said that love for one's country is part of faith. "It is only when youths live by this commitment that they can totally turn their backs on drugs and corruption and build a brighter future for mother Gambia." He said adding that the youth must beautify their conduct in order to be useful to the society. Speaking on the topic Youth, Globalisation and Islam, Demba Kandeh said that fast transport systems, telephone, satellite systems and internet have brought people to be close to each other, proving the truthfulness of the Holy Quran. "In spite of the celebrated pretenses of globalisation, the world has not been wholly integrated through the ideology of capitalistic practices, nor have these practices removed ideological polarisation. In fact, the poor are still very poor; in some instances, particularly in the third world, the poor are getting poorer. The universal and profound teachings of Islam are meant to create a universal human culture based on the unity of Almighty God and equality of mankind," he said, arguing that this should be basis for globalisation if it is to have any desired result not only on youth and Islam but on humanity as a whole," he said.

Other speakers at the convention included Ibrahima Bayo who elaborated on the organisation's pledge and Ustaz Syed Saee-ul-Hassan Shah who spoke on the topic Dignity of Labour. Among activities at the convention were sporting and academic competitions.
