THE Muslim community celebrated Australia Day complete with Aussie hats and youngsters giving speeches on what the country has done for them.
Ahmadiyya’s Baitul-Huda Marsden Park mosque was the location for the celebrations on Sunday.
It was topped off with a tour of the mosque.
The event has been a regular part of their calendar since 2007 and also allows the general public to get up close with a mosque.
Association external affairs secretary Mirza Ramzan Sharif said it was a way for them to reach out to the broader community.
``By celebrating we instil the love further, particularly in our younger generation,’’ he said.
Manal Mirza spoke about Australia as her homeland. She was joined by Samaan Khalid who also spoke on the same topic.
Mohammed Younus and Ahmad Jawad Khan talked about what Australia has done for them. National vice president Khalid Saifullah joined in, sharing their motto love for all hatred for none.
``We are a group of Muslims who come from places like Fiji, India, Indonesia, Bangladesh and Pakistan,’’ he said.
The association’s headquarters is at 20 Hollinsworth Rd, Marsden Park.
