Devastating murders against a religious minority prompted an outpouring of anger against extremism at a Morden mosque on Friday.
Faith and political leaders signed a condolence book for three Ahmadiyya muslims who were murdered in Indonesia by Islamic extremists who do considered them to be infidels.
Mitcham and Morden MP Siobhain McDonagh, Leader of Merton Council, Stephen Alambritis, and Lord Tariq Ahmad of Wimbledon (the first Ahmadi muslim to sit in the House of Lords) were among those who signed a condolence book.
Rafiq Hayat, president of the Ahmadiyya Community, said: “Their intolerance towards others threatens to tear up the fabric of civilised society and the values we hold dear.
“We need to live and let live and resist the mindset that decries others, vilifies them and treats them as less than human.
"Fascism and extremism must be resisted however it manifest itself.”
