The assassination of Shahbaz Bhatti, the only Christian in the cabinet in Pakistan brings shame to my religion once again by the so-called Muslims.
Extremism has no religion, and these murderers have no place in Islam. They have forgotten how Prophet Muhammad treated the non-Muslims with compassion, especially those who tortured and mistreated him.
Bhatti was not hurting anyone but standing up for his beliefs and against a law that is causing much pain to the religious minorities, Christians and the Ahmadi Muslims, in particular.
It was not that long ago that the case of a Christian woman, Asia Bibi took the world’s attention when she was sentenced to death for allegedly making derogatory remarks against the Prophet of Islam.
The governor of Punjab Salman Taseer was the first major casualty in the effort against this law and now the murder of Bhatti is the second.
There is no stopping this intolerance unless something is done to rid this law.
The US government has to urge the Pakistani government to take strong measures against the extremist element to ensure safety of all minorities.
As a member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community I strongly condemn this cowardly act.
