The Gambia: Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at largesse to NBR, CRR disaster victims

As part of its disaster relief humanitarian services, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at The Gambia, presented 50 bags of rice to disaster victims in the North Bank and Central River Regions, through the Office of the Governors, on Thursday 17th March 2011.

Speaking at the presentation held in Kerewan, Alhaji Eduwarr Seckan, the governor of NBR, said that the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at is always in the forefront of disaster relief and humanitarian services. He thanked the Jama’at for the gesture and described their members as law-abiding citizens.


For his part, the chief of the Lower Niumi District, Fabakary Nanna Sonko, said that the initiative is made possible because of the peace and security prevailing in the country. He challenged the youths to be law-abiding and obedient to parents. He said that nothing should incite us to disturb the peace, stability and tranquility that the country enjoys. The presentation was done on behalf of the Jama’at by Ustaz Hifazat Ahmed Naveed, Area Missionary Farafenni Area and some elders of the Jama’at.

Present at the occasion were the deputy governor of North Bank Region, the chief of Lower Baddibou District and the chief executive officer of Kerewan Area Council. Similar humanitarian services were also provided to 59 disaster victims in Kass Fula, Yalal Samba, Kuntaur Fula Kunda and Sinchu Dambelly in the Central River Region. According to sources the fire destroyed their houses, food stuffs, clothing materials, etc. The donated items include rice, cooking oil and clothing.

Speaking at the presentation, Tahir Ahmad Touray said that service to humanity is an integral teaching of Islam and is part of following the practice of the Holy Prophet Muhammad Mustapha (SAW). He therefore assured that the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at will always respond to the call of the needy. Lamin SM Jawo, speaking on behalf of the Regional Disaster Management Committee, commended the efforts of the Jama’at and said that this is not the first time that the Jama'at has come to the aid of disaster victims.
In a separate development, the foundation of the second phase of the Mbullum Ahmadiyya Muslim Upper Basic School was laid on Wednesday 23rd March 2011.

Speaking at the occasion, the Amir of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at The Gambia, Baba F. Trawalley, said the  purpose of the existence of mankind is to worship Allah the Almighty, adding that the school will contribute in promoting that fact. He reiterated that the instruction to learn was the first revelation given to the Holy Prophet of Islam Hadrat Muhammad Mustapha (SAW) and that it is only through learning that one can develop himself and the community at large.

Amir Trawalley stated that Muslims should always follow the teachings of the Holy Qur’an and the practice of the Holy Prophet Muhammad Mustapha (SAW). He called on the gathering to love the country because it is a part of faith. The ceremony was attended by dignitaries from various parts of the region and beyond, heads of school, parents and students. Guests from United States of America and 21 Villages were represented.
