Pakistan: Is the government losing control

Fundamentalists are gaining a stronger hold in Pakistan, both politically and socially, largely down to the authorities' inaction following the devastating floods last year.

When Pakistan's Minorities Minister Shahbaz Bhatti was assassinated for opposing the country's controversial blasphemy law, the majority of his colleagues shunned his funeral.

It was seen as a sign that the government's becoming increasingly afraid of upsetting powerful Islamist groups. Fundamentalists are gaining a stronger hold in Pakistan, both politically and socially, largely down to the authorities' inaction following the devastating floods last year. [more in video report]
