UK: Hundreds take part in Leamington Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association charity walk

“Many of the people taking part here today are from our own membership but the event is open to everyone and many people have come here to enjoy everything that’s going on. This year’s target was £225,000 and we’re very confident of reaching that target." [Hanif Raja, AMYA]

HUNDREDS of fundraisers have taken part in a national charity walk held in Leamington.

Every year since 1985 the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association have held charity events in the UK, raising tens of thousands of pounds.

This year’s event, which drew around 800 participants, started from the Pump Room Gardens in Leamington, with walkers strolling to Warwick for charity.

Organisers say the event could raise £225,000 for a variety of different charities across the country - making it Leamington’s biggest ever fundraiser.

Hanif Raja, part of the organising group’s national executive team, said the event had been a “huge success”.

“Many of the people taking part here today are from our own membership,” he said. “But the event is open to everyone and many people have come here to enjoy everything that’s going on.

“This year’s target was £225,000 and we’re very confident of reaching that target.

“It’s a wonderful feeling to see so many people taking part and so much money being raised.”
