Humanity First is holding an Iftar fundraising dinner for East Africa Drought Relief.
The severe drought in North East Africa is now affecting at least 11.5 million people, this according to Humanity First of Canada, a disaster releif organization.
Over 1300 refugees a day from Somalia have been trekking for days to get to refugee camps such as Dadaab and Ifo II in Kenya.
The organization says refugees are facing severe food shortages and difficulties in access to water and sanitation.
In some parts, 60% of cattle have perished.
There are major concerns that the most vulnerable children and elderly will not survive the latest crisis, and 40% of children are now facing chronic malnutrition. Hundreds are dying every day in the camps.
Humanity First has launched a major effort to confront the humanitarian crisis by organizing a fundraising dinner to raise funds for the Drought Relief.
The event is being held on Thursday, Aug 18, at Woodbine Banquet Hall, located at 30 Vice Regent Blvd. in Toronto.
According to the organizers the registration will start from 6.30pm.
The minimum donation is $30 per person and children under 7 will be admitted free.
Patrons can also support the fundraise by sponsoring the Iftar dates, sponsoring the Iftar dinner, or displaying their banner at the dinner for $150.
