A Muslim youth group will hold an open house on the Qur'an at Stratford Public Library on Saturday from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
Rizwan Rabbani of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association Canada said the group has been canvassing neighbourhoods throughout Canada promoting peace, condemning terrorism and bringing awareness about peaceful Islam.
He said from November 2010 to July 2011 the members visited 242,522 houses in 177 communities across Canada, reaching out to 953,514 people. That included trips to Stratford in January and December and one to St. Marys in March in which they visited a combined 4,700 homes.
The open house falls during Ramadan, considered the holiest season in the Islamic year and commemorating the time when the Qur'an, Islam's holy book, is said to have been revealed to the Prophet Muhammad. Ramadan began Aug. 1.
Rabbani said the group has been holding the open houses for the past three months but group members were concerned how they would be impacted by Ramadan since Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset during the religious holiday.
The volunteers wanted to continue holding the events, he said.
The open house will include displays on the status of women, prophecies of Qur'an and extraterrestrial life, among others.
Rabbani said the volunteers will also be more than happy to answer people's questions about Ramadan.
