Pakistan: Tablighi Jamā’at’s headquarter in Raiwind 'breeding grounds for extremism' | Interior Minster

According to the Wikipedia entry on Tablighi Jama’at, a deputy chief of the FBI's international terrorism section said in 2003 that there is “a significant presence of Tablighi Jamaat in the United States and we have found that al-Qaeda used them for recruiting now and in the past."

All extremist attend Raiwind center and they are connected with Afghan Jihadist and Islamist Mdrasas.

LONDON: Tablighi Jama’at’s center at Raiwind in Punjab, Pakistan, serves as breading grounds for all extremism, Pakistan’s interior minister Rahman Malik has disclosed.

The center serves as the essential location for brainwashing the extremists, the Minister said.

According to a Jang newspaper report published on July 29, Malik revealed that all extremists visit the Tablighi center in Raiwind and they are associated with Afghan Jihad and Islamist Madrasas.

Malik was addressing the International Institute of Strategic studies (IISS), a security think-tank in London, on the subject of extremism eradication in South Asia, when he made his remarks.

According to the news report, Malik said that all members of the Raiwind center have close relatives involved in Afghan Jihad and most were indoctrinated by Islamic Madrasas, some 25,000 of which are in operation in Pakistan.

Tablighi Jamā’at and its possible links with terrorists has been on the radar for the United States intelligence service as well.

“In the USA, concerns have risen about its role as a springboard to terrorist organizations,” reports Wikipedia website

The New York Times has reported that the group is often described by terrorism experts as the antechamber of Al Qaeda and the Taliban.

According to the Wikipedia entry on Tablighi Jama’at, a deputy chief of the FBI's international terrorism section said in 2003 that there is “a significant presence of Tablighi Jamaat in the United States and we have found that al-Qaeda used them for recruiting now and in the past."

Tablighi Jama’t’s involvement with terrorism again surfaced in 2010 when Pakistani Taliban attacked the two Ahmadiyya Mosques during Friday prayers in Lahore, Pakistan.

86 Ahmadis were murdered in well-coordinated twin attacks on Baituz Zikr Mosque in Ghari Shahu area and Baitun Nur mosque in Model town area of Lahore.

Post-attack Investigations revealed that during their weeklong preparations, the Taliban men had received room and board, and consultation services at the Tablighi headquarters in Raiwind.

The New York Times reported that “The men had also taken shelter at the Ibrahim Mosque, a center of the Tablighi Jamaat in central Lahore, according to Mr. Bharoka, the police spokesman.”

Tablighi Jamā’at has attracted several notable personalities in Pakistn. In addition to several entertainers, the names include former presidents of Pakistan, Muhammad Rafiq Tarar and Farooq Leghari.

Former Prime Minister of Pakistan and chief of Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz Group), Nawaz Sharif and his brother, Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif  are known to be patrons of the organization.

CM Punjab called the comments about Raiwind religious congregation as ‘irresponsible’ and took exception to a statement by the Malik that the Raiwind congregation of the Tablighi Jamat served as a breeding ground for terrorists.
